In its third wave, NYC has no shortage of coffee shops. From neighborhood hangouts to dedicated roasters – one can find a coffee spot every 2 blocks. This makes it hard for any coffee shop to stand out amongst the noise.

One coffee shop that has always stood out is Sweetleaf. Originally from Long Island City, Queens, they recently expanded with locations in Williamsburg and Greenpoint. Sweetleaf’s second LIC location serves brunch during the day and bar at night.

They roast their own beans and their coffee is consistently strong and delicious. Their baristas and employees are always friendly. I never found its locations to be pretentious. Aside from lattes and cappuccinos, they also provide special iced drinks such as their Rocketfuel (cold-brewed coffee with chicory, maple syrup & milk) and Voodoo Child (Vietnamese style cold brew). Each Sweetleaf location has eclectic interiors – a record room in their original location, vintage finds adorn the walls.
