Brunch at Flinder’s Lane

Australia is on my list of places to go, but the 20+ hour flight is quite a commitment. For a taste of it, a New Yorker can swing by the many Aussie spots that are dotted along downtown Manhattan. There are the coffee houses such as Two Hands and Bluestone Lane. And then there’s Flinder’s Lane.

Located along the border of Alphabet City, avenue A between 10th and 11th, Flinder’s Lane has the Australian fare with few drops of Southeast Asian flavor. In Melbourne, Flinder’s Lane is the destination for the city’s best eats.

If you’re looking for a quick bite, I definitely recommend grabbing a coffee and their sausage roll. Downed it too fast to take a picture, the roll is a simple yet seriously good sausage wrapped in flakey puff pastry. And if weather is pleasant, it’s nice to have it by their benches right outside.

The Big Aussie Breakkie is not to be taken lightly. It’s a platter of eggs, mushrooms, roasted tomato, baked beans, bacon, and also a pork sausage. It’s a challenge to take on (you can do it), and fuels you for the rest of the day.

Australian coffee is always top-notch. They also have a coffee take-out window if you really don’t want to step inside their lovely decorated interior.
